Spot the Mistake — الإِضَافَة

In the Arabic possessive construct (الإِضَافَة), the first word can never carry "Al-" and can never carry tanwīn. Read each English phrase, then choose the correctly written Arabic from the dropdown.

📖 The One Rule You Must Remember
In Idafah (the possessive construct):
  • The first word (مُضَاف · mudhāf) never takes ال — even if the English phrase begins with "the".
  • The first word never takes tanwīn (the doubled vowel ـٌ ـً ـٍ). It takes a single short vowel — usually a ḍammah ـُ.
  • The second word (مُضَاف إِلَيْه · mudhāf ilayh) is always genitive (مَجْرُور) — its last letter carries a kasrah ـِ.

Two wrong forms — and one right form:

❌ Wrong 1 الْكِتَابُ اللهِ
❌ Wrong 2 كِتَابٌ اللهِ
✓ Correct كِتَابُ اللهِ

Why does the first word take no "Al-"? Because it becomes automatically definite just by being the mudhāf of a definite mudhāf ilayh. Adding "Al-" is not only unnecessary — it is grammatically wrong. That's why "the Book of Allah" in Arabic is كِتَابُ اللهِ, never الْكِتَابُ اللهِ.
